The lemon tree is native to the vast steppe zone of Central Asia and Northern Himalayas. In this dry and sunny regions, the oasis inhabited by semi-nomadic tribes offered the best areas for crops of lemon tree thanks to the abundance of water. The neighboring countries, such as China, India and Persia, discovered the refreshing fruits of lemon and acquired the knowledge of their uses and crops. In the late 10th century Greek and Roman merchants brought them to the West, making the Mediterranean basin a large lemon tree farming area.
